Artist Statement
I have spent most of my life in the pursuit of numbers in business. Now I have changed my focus both literally and figuratively to photographic art. I use my photographic skills and artistry to show the vocabulary of life: expressing that which is totally obvious but often unseen. Through geometry and detail, I try to create tension to illuminate, not merely document.
My intent carries across all my photographic subjects. With portraits, I enjoy using the highest level of detail possible in combination with close up and imaginative lighting to capture personality as well as characteristic. In landscapes, I often use geometric cues to draw the viewer into the scene and share my emotional attachment. As I create visual studies, I attempt to convey feeling by photographing the unexpected in unusual situations.
The key goal is to capture the personality of my subject; human, animal or landscape, in the photographs. A prime example of this is my "Characters of the Kalihari" video portrait.
Regardless of the subject, I hope to allow the viewer to share my interpretations and perhaps, look at the familiar in a new light.
